How to follow the Habitat for Humanity ministry
Thanks for your interest in the Habitat for Humanity ministry. We help build one home per year, assisting the local HFH affiliate. We start in the fall, and we work five Saturdays. All Habitat homes currently under construction in Montgomery County are located on a single tract of land off Loop 336, southeast of the Conroe town center.
You are invited to work as few or as many workdays as suit you. We work from 7:30am till 2:00pm, but you need not work the whole time. If you have to show up late or leave early, that’s OK. Volunteers must be 14 years old to work on the site, 16 to be on a ladder, and 18 to use a power tool.
Lunch is served, and there will always be water and/or energy drinks available. If providing lunch is more attractive to you than construction, just let us know. We’ll work you into the schedule.
Communication about upcoming workdays is via Flocknote, so please register online at www.flocknote.com/stsj. Find Habitat for Humanity under the SERVE commission, “Homeless and in Need” line. You can ask to join the ministry, and that’s it! You will start to receive the emails from Flocknote announcing the upcoming workdays. Each email, which is typically sent out the Monday prior to the Saturday workday, will describe the work we will be doing that Saturday. It will also give the address of the work site, and will comment on how to dress. Each workday also starts with a safety briefing. Habitat provides all tools and personal protection equipment, such as gloves, hard hats, and safety glasses; but if you have your own tools, feel free to bring them out.
The Habitat affiliate also requires each volunteer to sign a waiver of liability. A link to the Habitat volunteer website is included in each Flocknote email. Once you register on the Habitat website once, and “sign” your waiver, you can select the workdays on which you want to work. Hopefully we will get 15-20 volunteers each workday.
Thanks again for your interest. If you have any questions, please send me an email at dc.vogt@earthlink.net
